Dear Community Friends,
In May 2015, we opened the Nauvoo Market under seemingly impossible odds. The opening was a huge lift for the community and was made possible by the generous contributions of many citizens and friends of Nauvoo. The excitement drew extensive media coverage and there was a great excitement. For the past 2 years, many of you have shopped the Nauvoo Market greeted by the Anderson family as you entered the store. We have appreciated, and are grateful, for the support you have given us. It was your patronage that kept the market going. It has been a pleasure to serve you.
In recent weeks, we have concluded that additional monies would be needed to keep the market open to a financial point of breakeven. We were needing to raise $78,000 to make the necessary changes to the store (including changing vendors, meat counter changes, and other various repairs needed). After some inquires and solicitations for capital, there has been no success in obtaining needed funds. The raising of funds required a group effort involving several individuals, and not just one.
With regret, I am announcing the permanent closing of the Nauvoo Market. Beginning Monday, January 23rd we will open to the public in order to liquidate the remaining inventory at discounted prices. After the inventory is liquidated, the store will close. As far as the future of the property, it remains undecided. We certainly will make decisions that continue to provide a benefit to the citizens and visitors to Nauvoo.
Finally, a special thank you to the Andersons and Hammans, who labored tirelessly to make the market a success. We could have not done it without you!
